About Taiwanese artist, Ms. Huichiao CHEN

Hui-chiao Chen lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan. She is the Director of the alternative space IT PARK in Taipei. She deals in her work with ritualistic repetitive movements, examining the interrelationship between external realities and inner consciousness, through which she searches for personal meaning and equilibrium. Inspired by poetry, psychology, and the dream state, Chen reinterprets and redefines matter through form, exploring the meaning of relationships, conceptually as well as formally.

About the Artists Residence at Glenfiddich Programme

n 2002 Glenfiddich established their Artists in Residence Programme at its Distillery in Dufftown. The Glenfiddich programme gives visual artists of international acclaim, the opportunity to mix and work alongside like minded individuals, living on site in cottages at The Glenfiddich Distillery and utilising the atmosphere and environment as inspiration to explore and develop their work. The artists spend the summer at Glenfiddich and have free reign to create new works. A specially created Gallery at the distillery showcases existing and new pieces by the participating artists. The artists-in-residence programme is of a growing nature, where the artists initially show some of their very best existing work. The show changes continuously throughout the summer, while work is being added, complemented, changed, even some surprises when doing the distillery tour. You will never exactly know what to expect.

Other Participating artists for 2005

For 2005, they have selected eight contrasting visual artists from across the world, inviting them to the distillery, where they are given the opportunity to create an individual expression of the independent spirit. All the artists work in different media, confirming and interpreting craftsmanship in a variety of ways: film and video making, sculpture, painting, performance and much more.... It includes Claudio Caldini (Argentina), Chen Hui-chiao (Taiwan), Bertrand Gadenne (France), Jochen Flinzer (Germany), David MacRaild (Scotland), Myfanwy MacLeod (Canada), Warren Neidich (USA) and Alison Watt (Scotland).
