Jenny Lu's exhibition

The Cultural Division is pleased to sponsor and introduce Jenny Lu's Solo Exhibition at the Alsager Gallery, Manchester Metropolitan University Cheshire, and running from 27 September until 22 October. Entitled Monsters of the Id, the exhibition incorporates several of Jenny Lu's major video works, created between 2000 and 2004. The exhibition offers glimpses of the imaginary and disturbing creatures normally hidden within the artist's unconscious mind. Jenny Lu's work is imbued with a sense of unease, relating in part to her own experience of conflicting cultural influences as a Taiwanese artist working and living in London. She uses the "unheimlich" (unhomely) as subject as well as device in her artwork. She is interested in the psychology of the viewer and often twists images of ordinary situations to make activities seem slightly askew. Her videos evoke the unheimlich in our everyday lives.

Jenny Lu won the ICA's Beck's Futures Student Prize for Film and Video in 2000 and since then has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally. Recent shows include Ways to Die at the Hoxton Distillery in London and Airbourne System Mode in Macau. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2001 and is currently studying a PhD in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design.
