5 th November to 27 th November 2005 8hrs ｘ 3artists － 8hrs x 3artists ＋ 8hrs x 3artist － ……=24 or 0. 0 O’clock in the UK, 8 O’clock in Taiwan, six artists were chosen to play a game. This game was called SeeSaw. Between two second cities, two galleries, Western and Eastern, two nationalities and 8 hours time difference, the artwork will race in-between. The past and the present and the future exist at the same point. SeeSaw is a group show by six artists; three Taiwanese and three British, taking place in Taiwan and England simultaneously. All the work involved is electronic, and so disappears when switched off, so the work will ‘see-saw’ from country to country as the galleries open and close. There are five new pieces of work created for this show, based on different ideas of communication, travel, interaction and time. The artists exhibited together earlier this year at Kaohsiung Museum and Art Gallery in the ‘Intertidal Zone Art Monitoring Station’ show. Hsu, Su- chen, described as a cultural phenomenon in Taiwan, will invite the audience to create an audio symphony by there movements around the space. Hsiao, Sheng-chien asks the audience to slap him repeatedly, while Ana Benlloch references ‘Room 101’ by challenging your deepest fears. David Miller’s piece creates a moving painting controlled by and involving the audience and Stuart Tait simulates birdcall with a computer. Milee Lee’s work will create a visual record of people’s movement through the space, referencing Chinese painting. This is an experimental show, and should serve as a starting point for future projects linking cities and cultures.
