The Century Contemporary Dance Theatre from Taiwan

The Cultural Division is pleased to sponsor a special dance performance of DOUBLE HAPPINESS and I GET a KICK OUT OF YOU by the Taiwanese dance group Century Contemporary Dance Theatre at Dance City in Newcastle. The performance is part of the Newcastle/Gateshead's International Dance Festival and will take place at 8pm on Friday 12th May 2006. DOUBLE HAPPINESS is the latest work from Taiwanese dancer/choreographer Shu-Fen Yao, Artistic Director of Century Contemporary Dance Theatre. This dramatic work aims to discuss the differences between traditional and modern wedding ceremonies. This is a new work by Ms Yao, commissioned especially for the festival.

Shu-Fen Yao's second featured work, I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU, is a direct response to Ms. Yao's experiences in Newcastle and the North East of England, focusing on that mystical religion of the region – football! The dance is a weird and wonderful take on the all too familiar, performed by dancers from Taipei and the North East of England.
