Funding programmes of the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange
The aims and objectives of the foundation The main objective of the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation is to promote the study of Chinese culture and society, broadly defined. Through its support for international scholarly exchange, the Foundation hopes to create a better understanding between the Chinese and other peoples. In general, the scope and the Foundation's programmes includes, but is not limited to: a. Chinese cultural heritage The foundation will give priority to programmes and projects that involve academic co-operation between scholars and institutions in the Republic of China and their counterparts abroad.

Programme for UK academics visiting Taiwan
The aim of the programme The aim of this programme is to encourage and help U.K. academics to visit
Those eligible for the programme Academics should be internationally renowned in the field of study they are visiting Taiwan to further.
The Ministry of Education in Taipei will offer participants 1. A return economy class airfare to Taiwan.
The application procedure To apply for Ministry of Education support for your visit, you must apply through the host university or college in Taiwan to which you will go.
Ministry of Education Programme for UK leaders in the field of education
The aim of the programme To promote mutual understanding between educational leaders in Taiwan and the U.K. and to establish links in the educational field.
The nature of the programme: The Ministry of Education will help to arrange an itinerary for educational leaders from the UK to visit Taiwan for up to 7 days and will offer a proportion of the costs of the trip.
Those who the programme is aimed at Vice-chancellors, principals or rectors of U.K. universities or colleges or leaders of
important international educational organisations who have shown interest in developing
academic links with Taiwan and have not been a guest of the Ministry of Education in the
five years prior to application. NB: The Ministry of Education can also make provision for those who wish to make a trip to Taiwan as part of a wider visit of East Asia if their stay in Taiwan will be longer than 4 days.
The National Science Council's Support to Research
Research Projects The National Science Council (NSC) provides financial assistance to academic research organisations and to universities to carry out academic research projects. A variety of expenses are paid for based on actual need, such as research assistants, instruments and facilities, consumable goods, calculators and administrative and other research-related expenditures. The "research projects" are divided into two categories: a. Individualised projects Researchers may propose research topics based on either current domestic sci-tech development requirements or on personal interest. b. Mission-oriented projects The NSC has established a task force to co-ordinate with all relevant bodies in drawing up and approving research topics directed towards industrial development, public welfare, or other current national needs.
International Co-operation Bilateral Sci-tech Co-operation The National Science Council has acted on behalf of the government in signing bilateral agreements on science and technology co-operation with the United States, Japan, South Africa, France, Germany, England, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Jordan, Russia, and Australia.
International Sci-tech Organisations and Activities The NSC has full membership in 27 of the 21 science organisations of International Council of Scientific Unions. It is an official member of the International Foundation for Science and actively assists developing nations in developing science and technology. It also provides financial assistance to hold international academic conferences, and to help academics participate in international conferences.
