The aim of the "Invitation to Taiwan" project is to support a series of events related to Taiwan.

It's purpose is to increase the awareness of Taiwan and promote links with the U.K..

  Taiwan on Film : The Cultural Series of Taiwan

This collection of twelve short films from some of Taiwan’s most talented directors aims to bring to life the culture, traditions and lifestyles of the people living on the small island, which was fittingly called llha Formosa-or ‘beautiful island’ by early Portuguese explorers. They have been received well throughout the world, and have been awarded prizes at a variety of film festivals including the 2001 Houston Film Festival, the Columbus International Film Festival Award and the New York Questar International Film and Video Festival.

Through these award-winning films, we can explore the colourful history and practices of the Taiwan people. From rice-growing to tea-drinking, from modern attitudes towards women to ethnic festivities-these films give viewers an authentic flavour of today’s Taiwan whilst at the same time helping people to understand the origins of Taiwan ’s traditions. We believe that these films will prove to you that the millennia old Chinese culture is well preserved and flourishing on this often neglected island. You will also see how Taiwan has succeeded in engaging a variety of influences form the East and West and the old and modern.
